BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM

EMDR has become invaluable for psychotherapists of all major orientations, including psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, and experiential/gestalt.  It is a method which is readily integrated into one’s clinical practice and can be learned in a modest period of time.

This intensive 51-hour experiential training will introduce participants to the safe and efficient use of the EMDR approach with a wide range of patients and situations.  This training program is approved by Dr. Francine Shapiro, the developer of EMDR and a Director of the EMDR Institute.  It is also approved by the EMDR International Association, a professional association which has established standards for EMDR practice and training.  This course meets the basic training requirement towards EMDRIA certification.

We have been training and providing consultation and supervision to clinicians using EMDR for many years and have developed a training format which we believe will optimally prepare clinicians for using EMDR in most clinical practice settings.  Our training is a 3-weekend program extended over a period of three months.   Included  are the EMDRIA-required ten hours of case consultation distributed throughout the training.  This is designed to help clinicians begin the use EMDR with their clients and to address technical difficulties which might arise when clinicians first begin to use EMDR.  Note that most other EMDR training programs require students to make private arrangements for case consultation at their own expense and time in order to complete the training.  Our training program can save you $600-1200 in these extra costs and the many extra hours of travel time required to meet with a private consultant.

This is an experiential training.  Participants will be using EMDR with each other to reprocess memories of disturbing life experiences in order to gain familiarity with how clients experience EMDR processing effects as well as to acquire and develop the necessary practitioner skills before beginning work with actual clients.  The training groups are limited to ten participants  thus allowing a  more intimate, comfortable, private, and personalized learning environment  not possible in other EMDR trainings where there might be 50-200 participants.  Participants will be expected to read and study EMDR literature before and during the training and will have homework assignments between training sessions.  All of this is designed to prepare participants for the effective use of EMDR in their clinical practices.  Our goal is to help each participant become a confident and effective EMDR practitioner.

ADVANCED TRAINING WORKSHOPS

Our advanced training weekends are designed for clinicians who seek to deepen their understanding of EMDR principles, protocols, and procedures.  Building on basic precepts of the model, participants will enhance their ability to apply EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach.  They will learn about the latest developments in EMDR and further develop their knowledge of case conceptualization, cognitive interweave strategies, advanced applications of the three-pronged approach, and resourcing strategies that can be used throughout the course of treatment.  Extensive video of cases treated over time will be presented.

Each Advanced Training workshop has been approved by EMDRIA for 13CEs and by several boards for professional CEUs via our co-sponsor, the EMDR Institute.  Refer to the Schedules page for dates and location and to CEUs for more specific CEU information..
