BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM

This experiential training will familiarize participants with a broad spectrum of EMDR applications sufficient for comfortable and efficient use of the approach with a wide range of patients and situations.  This training program is approved by Dr. Francine Shapiro, the developer of EMDR and a Director of the EMDR Institute.  It is also approved by the EMDR International Association which has established standards for EMDR practice and training as meeting the basic training requirements should you wish to pursue certification.

We have been training and providing consultation and supervision to clinicians using EMDR for many years and have developed a training format which we believe will best prepare clinicians for using EMDR in their clinical practice settings.  Our training is a 3-weekend program extended over a period of three months.   We have included ten hours of case consultation distributed throughout the training designed to help clinicians begin to use EMDR with their clients and to address technical problems which typically are encountered at this stage in the learning curve.  Note that most other EMDR training programs require students to make private arrangements for case consultation at their own expense in order to complete the training.  Our training program can save you $600-1200 in these extra costs.

Please note that this is an experiential training.  Participants will be using EMDR with each other to reprocess memories of disturbing life experiences in order to gain familiarity with how clients experience EMDR processing effects as well as to acquire and develop the necessary practitioner skills before beginning work with actual clients.  The training groups are limited in size  thus allowing a  salon-style comfortable, private, and personalized learning environment  not possible in other EMDR trainings where there might be 50-200 participants.  Participants will be expected to read and study EMDR literature before and during the training and will have homework assignments between training sessions.  All of this is designed to prepare participants for the effective use of EMDR in their clinical practices.

Integrating EMDR with Other Approaches

EMDR has become invaluable for psychotherapists of all major orientations, including psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, and experiential/gestalt.  It is a method which is readily integrated into one’s clinical practice and can be learned in a modest period of time.

ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM

The advanced training program will be offered beginning late fall 2008.  It is designed for clinicians who are seeking to deepen their understanding of EMDR principles, protocols, and procedures.  Building on basic precepts of the model, participants will enhance their ability to apply EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach.  They will learn about the latest developments in EMDR andl deepen their understanding of case conceptualization, cognitive interweave strategies, advanced applications of the three-pronged approach, and resourcing strategies that can be used throughout the course of treatment.  Videotapes of cases will be presented.

Application has been made for 12 EMDRIA CEs and for professional CEUS.  Refer to the Schedules   page for dates and location.
